screw it... [Jun. 12th, 2006|09:21 am]
Amanda
[Current Mood |scaredpanicked]

I just want a JOB, for the love of damnation. How freaking hard is that? What more do I need to do? All these places are hiring and I'm NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Every single factor that could be against me, is against me.
I just want a low-paying retail job so I won't have to keep watching my account balance go down and down and down. I work hard! I'm friendly! I learn quick! Look, my old manager highly recommends me! My availability's great! I've got a resume! I'm responsible!! But no, there's STILL some unnameable thing they find wrong with me, apparently. Thanks. Maybe from now on I should kiss each manager's feet and hand them a gift basket.

I'm running out of money and there's nothing to do about it and I feel useless and listless and utterly helpless and time's running out for the summer hiring and I'm willing to give a job my all, and yet...no calls from anywhere and cryptic answers whenever I try to call these places!! And then when I try to fill out more stupid online applications, the damn sites refuse to work!

This is just plain cruel. What have I done to deserve this madness??

Does anyone in your neighborhood have dogs? Maybe you could put out flyers to walk them and all if the person if leaving for a few days. I've done it before and it was so much fun...the dog actually got majorly obsessed with us haha...

This isn't the most spectacular of neighborhoods, and owners are very posessive of their dogs here.

Have you looked into a temp agency, hon? They took me when I had absolutely no experience whatsoever, so I'm sure they'd take you. And if the pay is anything like mine was, it pays well. The two jobs I worked last summer paid $12 and $13 an hour.

It can lead to a permanent job, too. Up until a few years ago, my mom had never interviewed for a job, because she started out with a temp agency, was hired by someone she worked for there, and then advanced through the ranks for the next twenty years until she was making over a hundred thousand a year. (Granted, this is in the Bay Area, where you have to make a ton of money just to survive, but still)

Don't give up, hon. *hugs* I'm sure you'll find something.

I agree with you on the temp service. My mum has used one out here, called Kelly Services. It was pretty good.

I hope so Alli...thank you. I'll try for that if I need to, though my main worry with temp jobs is the transportation aspect of it. At least I know it's an option that's out there.

Amanda, it won't be too long until you have a job. There are pleanty of jobs out here, but it always takes a dozen or so attempts to find one.

Are you anywhere near Paramus or Cherry Hill?
I could call the managers of those stores and see if i could get you in one of those (Tower Records).
Let me know.

Thank you so much--though I haven't heard of those towns so I don't believe so. I'm in the Newark/Union/New Brunswick area...haven't seen a Tower Records anywhere here yet (and if I did, I'd be in there looking around in a second :P).

Are there any job websites for that area you're in? Around here they have websites where you can look for jobs, supposedly it works rather well. What about babysitting? Kids are everywhere. Im sure you'll have a job in no time!

I hope so hun...thank you. And yeah, I'm gonna try the Yahoo site. It had near-success last time I was looking, so here's hoping...

What have all the places said to you that you've filled applications out for???

Keep calling them until they give you a straight answer...Then either be hired...or move on and repeat until hired

They first say they'll call in a bit...then a bit passes and no calls have come. Then I either call them or stop by to check, and one of the following happens:
a) they inform me that they are no longer hiring, or the positions have been filled.
b) they say they'll call with an interview in a few more days...and they don't, so I call them or stop by again...and the cycle repeats.

I'll keep trying though...it's just damn annoying.
