Yesterday's Adventure (ouch!) [Feb. 24th, 2008|10:14 pm]
[Current Mood |artistic!!!!!!!!!!]

To celebrate our new licenses Ari and I went on an excursion yesterday, just the two of us (we have a nice arrangement set up: because Ari knows the area so well, he drives to wherever we're going to map it out, and I drive back). His mother had pointed out that now that we have our licenses, we can easily go on dates! So because we each needed some things and my loyal, 3-year-old purse recently took sick and is dying, we took a trip to the mall. It was a nice spree/date, as we hardly ever buy anything and are enjoying our newfound freedom. I found a beautiful new purse, he got a wonderfully cheap dorm fridge, and we got a few other things (including yummy pretzels: the only reason I get excited about malls lol).

So we were in Sears when I decided I should see if they had any non-ugly pants, as I've received compliments on the few pairs of pants I own (you look really nice in pants, Amanda! You should wear them more often! etc). I was walking in an aisle when, suddenly, I felt something go through my shoe and deep into my foot. It turned out to be one of those pins from an anti-theft device. Ari pulled it out and called associates over who called security. They seemed strangely surprised that that had happened (it seems like the first time it has), which is bizarre considering that the pin was of a type that rests straight up when dropped and is fashioned of a metal that, though dull on the end, had nevertheless managed to go straight through my sturdy sole and into my foot, and hadn't even bent in the process. So after having the puncture disinfected and filling out the injury paperwork, I decided that it was God's way of saying I should stick to skirts for the meantime and forget about new pants, lol.

It seems that the pin punctured one of my tendons, as a sharp shooting pain runs through my foot every time I try to curl the toe that's directly above the wound. Fun huh? But, thankfully, it seems that tendons heal fairly quickly. It's already less painful. I'll just have to avoid moving that toe until then, lol.

My only question is: of all the people in the world, why me? I go to a mall only once every couple years, yet I come back with an injury instead of a seasoned mall-goer? Maybe they know something I don't...

Despite that extravaganza, though, and even after it, we did manage to have a great time. After briefly getting lost (we'd forgotten how we'd got there :P), we stopped at QuikChek and got big yummy sandwiches, then drove home on a really fun road. Trust me, it was nicer than it sounds (even getting lost was!, and he found the way back).
I can't even put into words how much I love him or how precious such a time is: just the two of us, out on an adventure (even as perilous as it turned out to be!).

She didn't even try on shoes. We were in the women's pants when she stepped on a tack that went through her shoe.

I have nightmares about pins getting stuck in my feet. But for it to actually happen... ouch indeed!

Wow, that sounds nasty. I really would have freaked out, had I been in your situation.

Sears is lucky you're a nice person. That seems like it could have been a fine case of negligence, if brought before a court.
