This is such a cool icon! Crystal made it.
In much more serious news, I just got back from the wildlife center. I had been expecting the Great Horned Owl, who had been shot a few weeks before, to be the only rehab animal. But today I learned that in one week, two more birds of prey had been shot. They were a red-tailed hawk and a red-shouldered hawk. The red-tail was shot with a new kind of pellet that apparently explodes on impact, so (s)he didn't stand a chance. I won't even get into the details.
The red-shouldered hawk and the great-horned owl were both shot on the wing with regular bullets, so they should recover and hopefully be released next spring.
But why so many gunshot wounds all of a sudden? I know it's hunting season, but that's definitely no excuse to make an animal suffer like this. It makes me so mad, and the fact that these birds were found in different areas makes it even worse. Apparently there are a lot of people out there shooting animals, even ones that are illegal to shoot, such as birds of prey like these three. These deaths and injuries could and should have been prevented. There's no excuse.
